Forbes Avenue, San Rafael, California

Extensive remodel to an existing single-floor ranch-style house helped the owners achieve their dream home in which to retire and enjoy for many years. Among the notable improvements made to the original façade and floor plan, a family room addition at the front of the house and a new, more prominent entry, to greatly improve curb appeal.

Warm Welcome

New front entry door, slate floor tile and custom recessed niche greet visitors with warmth and elegance, providing much- welcome character in a formerly bland space.

Define and Delineate

Previously, there was no distinction between the dining room and formal living room in this large rectilinear space. Boxed ceiling beams were added along with new built-in cabinets around the fireplace to help define and delineate the different spaces.

Casual Entertaining

The family room addition at the front of the house provides a casual area for entertainment and a perfect place to enjoy the views of the newly landscaped front yard. A large skylight raises the height of the ceiling, making the room feel larger and creating a subtle indoor-outdoor connection.

A bright laundry room with built-in cabinetry doubles as the owner’s office and craft area.

Gardener’s Desire

This rustic garden room tucked between the garage and kitchen provides the owner with dedicated indoor space for gardening work, with views to the back yard.

Eat-In Kitchen

Updated lighting and a new seating area were added to the kitchen to improve the look and functionality of the space.

Inviting Guest

The guest bathroom was remodeled with new cabinetry, plumbing fixtures and tile in warm and inviting neutral colors.

Luxury Master Bath

An 8-foot addition to the back of the house made space for this luxurious master bath. A new bay window with soaking tub is the focal point of the room. The center window between the two sinks and wall-mounted light fixtures provide an ideal combination of lighting for the wall-to-wall mirrors at the vanity.

Raised Ceilings

Raising and vaulting the ceilings, installing a new gas fireplace, and adding high windows above the bed allow the owners to enjoy a spacious, comfortable, private environment filled with light.
