HIGH-PEAKED COLONIAL REVIVAL (Whole House Renovation, Junior ADU)
Creating more living space is often a matter of seeing the space that’s already there. For this family of five, we designed new, dedicated spaces for each generation to claim as their own, while opening up new spaces to enjoy together. For beloved “Baba,” the grandmother: a junior ADU on the lower floor, featuring her own Japanese-inspired kitchen with custom-designed cabinetry and a passage directly to the shared laundry room. For the children: their own media room, with space to keep their things out of sight and direct access to the yard from a new, back deck off the kitchen. The entire family loves to cook and they love to entertain, so we reconfigured the formerly fragmented kitchen and created a light-filled cooking and dining area around a central island, with space to hang out without getting in the way of the action. From the reconfigured entryway, living and dining rooms, to the new Hardie shingle on the home’s exterior, there isn’t a facet of the house we didn’t redesign or refresh, to make this beloved turn-of-the-century revival a beautiful, functional and classic multi-generational home for years to come.
