Remodel: Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathroom
Living out on The Island means long, clear views of the horizon — an effect we wanted to achieve for our clients in their three-bedroom, Alameda Craftsman. A previous, split-level addition had made a maze of the back of the house, creating an obstacle course through the peninsular kitchen to everything at the back of the house: the laundry, the primary bedroom and tiny bathroom above and a dungeon-like home office below, and the backyard. We cleared the decks by leveling the floor from the entryway through the living room, dining room, kitchen and a new, comfy family room with a clear path to the back yard. The remodeled kitchen is now the heart of the house commanding views throughout; pass-through windows to the new deck make inside/outside entertaining a breeze. Above it all, the primary bedroom enjoys a new second-story roost whose overhang shades the back deck on sunny afternoons. Refreshed bathrooms, Fireclay tiles, matching window trim and soul-soothing shades of blue from entryway to deck tie the entire composition together for a clean, modern aesthetic in this newly expansive and calm island home.
