Cottage (Kitchen Remodel, Bathroom Remodel, Expansion)
Bold pops of color announce a bright new era for the owners of this lower Rockridge modern farmhouse, from French country blue cabinets and a bright red stove in the kitchen to playful green penny round tile in the refreshed downstairs powder room. Making space for a family of three in this formerly cluttered cottage meant moving and opening the wall between the kitchen and dining room to create an eat-in peninsula and a more spacious feel in the two rooms, removing bulky built-ins in favor of bright, beautiful windows, and adding an upstairs master bath. Inside this new, more open layout, we freshened up kitchen cabinets and added a beautiful new tile backsplash in the kitchen. We also created a world of neat functional space in the welcoming side entry, which doubles as a laundry room and craft room. One of the owners, a graphic designer, enjoyed helping select finishes, which play off the family’s art collection with unique, vintage furnishings and a strong color signature in each room of this bright, functional, family-friendly gem.
