When their children left the nest, the homeowners at this Paramount Road house seized the opportunity to reclaim their floor plan. We converted an unneeded fifth bedroom into a sunny family room joined to a redesigned, open kitchen and cheerful sitting nook. We moved the laundry room, which used to serve the entire family from the center of the house, to an upstairs room just off the master bedroom, eliminating trips up and down an awkward second set of stairs, which we removed for greater simplicity and flow. In architectural terms, we call this: Aging Gracefully.
