Poppy Lane

Poppy Lane – Berkeley

Addition, Remodel

Homes in the Berkeley Hills have a regional charm – often blending traditional architectural styles with a flavor all their own. For this Berkeley Tudor, we designed an exterior addition that preserves the home’s historic character while opening up the interior with a custom remodel. On the exterior, we snugged the addition neatly between the two gabled peaks adding square footage  while preserving the home’s classic Tudor profile. On the interior, we reclaimed a long, dark central hall to add space and light to the bedrooms and bathrooms. The first bedroom was transformed into a comfortable primary suite with a generous closet and grand bathroom with freestanding tub and open shower. The homeowner brought her impeccable style to the primary bath, with a neutral palette and monolithic tone, balanced with warming, custom wood finishes. The serene guest bath features a green Cast concrete sink with scalloped edges echoing the striking, scalloped green tile at the back of the shower. Custom elements signal a personal style throughout the remodel, from the chevron-patterned flooring in the addition (used as a lounge off the primary suite), to the interior window that allows the homeowner to chat with her husband from the bath while he lounges in the addition below. A transom window, a skylight and wider interior dining room open the center gathering space to light – a hub for entertaining and the newly bright heart of the house.
